Maderotherapy

Maderotherapy, also known as wood therapy, is a form of holistic massage that employs repetitive movements using anatomically sculpted wooden tools to manipulate certain areas of muscles, fat, cellulite, and to stimulate the lymphatic drainage system removing unnecessary water, fat and toxins from the body. These wooden tools, such as rolling pins, contour scrapers and suction cups, come in different sizes and design and each has a specific use for a specific area of the body.

It is an effortless and efficient way of contouring the body without harming the skin or tissue. It will tone, reduce, breakdown and eliminate stored fat and fibrous cellulite, so that it can be eliminated naturally with other toxins through lymphatic system. This technique can be used to the entire body or to specific, targeted areas for different reasons. It is also effective for reducing fluid retention and draining the affected areas, which can be resulting in the reduction of pain associated with fluid retention while also improving its appearance.

What to expect?

During the session different, specialized wooden tools are used with repetitive motions on certain areas of the body, such as face, torso, arms, and legs. Each of the wooden tools has a specific shape and size since they adapt to different areas of the body and have different use. The pressure applied is generally vigorous, deep, and continuous and can be adapted to suit the area worked on and each client’s needs. The tools are sanitized between uses.

The first few sessions may cause some discomfort as you work with your practitioner to figure out the right amount of pressure for you. Sessions may become more comfortable over time. Wood therapy may cause bruising for some people.

How many treatments are needed?

Full treatments can vary from body to body (face to face). Some ladies will need 8 massages and some at least 12. Also, many clients prefer to come only once a month to have regular care of their body. In this way, we regularly work on reducing water retention, preventing the formation of new cellulite, and feeling better. We recommend one massage first and after that we will give you a professional opinion on how many massages you would need for the treatment to be the most beneficial.

How often can I have the treatment?

The body requires 72 hours to eliminate fat and toxins after a treatment therefore treatments can only be provided with the minimum gap of every 3 days.

How long do the results last?

The results are gradual over number of weeks as your body clears the broken-down fatty tissues. It is not uncommon to achieve up to 10-centimetre reduction by the end of the treatment course. The results can be long-lasting provided you follow a healthy diet and exercise regime.

What to do before the treatment?

Before your treatment you should be eating healthily and following a low-fat diet. Hydration is paramount so we recommend you drink at least 2 litres of water in the 24 hours leading up to your wood therapy appointment. I would recommend avoiding too heavy exercises to make sure the muscles are not tense and not eating prior the treatment.

What to do after the treatment?

Drink plenty of water! Drinking water after wood therapy helps the detoxification process. Try to drink between 2 – 2.5 litres within the first 24 hours after treatment. I highly recommend herbs and teas that support the detoxification process. While wood therapy is a great tool to help to contour your body, it will not compensate for a healthy and active lifestyle.
